Rescuing a dog.

On a lighter, happier note than yesterday...

DH and I have been looking into adopting/rescuing a dog in need. There are tons of labbies out there that I know are going to go to good homes. Then there are others who NEED a good home. That's what I want. Poopie lives such a nice life. Why not give that same life to a dog who has never known love?

We had been looking into a dog named Jake. He had been dumped off on someone's farm, underfed, obviously beaten and had cigarette burns all over his legs. I bawled telling my husband about him. We put in to adopt him but I believe his foster family ended up keeping him.
This is who we are looking at now. Meet King.

"King was an owner surrender and has been kenneled his whole life and was neglected. His kennel was rarely cleaned out and he lived among his owne waste. King is about 5 years old and just needs someone to give him some time and love. This boy is very energetic and will need some obedience training to help him know good "doggie manners" since his previous owners didn't give him the time of day. Please give King a wonderful home and call the pound today! He is in danger of being PTS due to a full kennel! King deserves a second chance, don't you think?! "

There are a few issues such as housebreaking him, the fact that he has never worn a collar, has never been inside a home, has no shots and is not neutered. Not sure how this is all going to play out but we're going to try our best.

Thanks Nookie! I love you too :)

It's more a matter of setting up transport for him. Interstate transport of dogs is difficult with no shots and certificate of health. The pound where he is at has a woman that will transport him as far as Buffalo. I may see if she will take him to the vet for us to get his shots, we pay the vet and then have her transport him to Buffalo and then we would drive the additional five hours to get him.

I see lots of dogs that I would like to adopt but the ones that are really in need, are the ones that I really want.

I'm surprised they don't take care of the shots and neutering to make things easier for people to adopt them.

He's at a pound vs. a shelter but I agree! Give him the shots already.

I wish they did a sponsor type situation whereby they have someone that would physically take him to the vet and I would pay the bill.

Oh good luck! Don't worry, if King isn't the right baby for you, there are many others out there just waiting for your loving home.

Adoption of unwanted pets is a wonderful thing. *smooch*

That is so sweet! I hope it works out for King and you guys, but don't worry if it doesn't, like Nutz said, there are many pets who need homes. I think you're wonderful for doing this!

*smooches*

Awwww, he's very cute. I hope that he gets to live with you and that it all works out. It sounds like he has not had a great life so far.

I have contacted a member of a rescue group in Indiana called Love of Labs of Indiana or "LOLIN". From what I understand, they have rescue members that will go get King, take him to the vet, get him up-to-date with all of his shots, etc. and then set up transport. I am so glad DH is on board with this. He wanted an 8 month old lab in CT that was the same age and looked just like Thea. Would that dog be great? Sure. But do I think that King needs a home more? Yes.

*smooches* Did you like my idea for a thread? It's almost as though they won't post in it for fear of touching something unholy. Garlic flavored cryptonite for the R.right. HA!

I did like it. It's the only thread I have opened or posted in. But I am one of those pro baby killers so what did you expect. *grin*

I posted the thread because I wanted to know what the sinners were up to.

Wow, what a wonderful project you are undertaking! I hope it works out & you are able to adopt King. He needs a loving home & would love Thea.

I've always had a wee problem with people that will only buy dogs from a breeder when there are so many dogs that need rescuing. I understand breeding furthers the good strains of dog DNA and bettering the breed is important.

I admire what you are doing. Not only did you get your purebread puppy, but you are also helping the shelter/pound dog population.

People asked me when we got the puppy, why we didn't get a dog from a rescue or a pound? Very simple answer. We had never owned a dog of any kind before so a rescue was out of the question.

Older rescues/adoptees need special care and attention. The owners need a working understanding of how dogs react in certain situations, different signs and signals that they give, etc. Oh and King is purebred too, he just had really shitty owners, if you can even call them that.

You're doing a really great thing Kitty. We really thought about keeping Scruffy when he needed a home. What held me back was the fact that we're gone eleven hours a day during the week and I feel guilty enough leaving Holly alone that long without bringing another one into the picture.

Wouldn't Scruffy have kept Holly company? Speaking of Holly, give her a kiss for me. Ummm, if Jamie is around, give him a kiss for me too. *giggle*

If you knew how difficult it has been to adopt this dog! Gee whiz! You would think that they would be chomping at the bit to give these dogs to a good home.

King needs to be pulled from the pound, vetted and fostered. I called a resuce place in northern Ohio and she basically said "You'd be better off adopting a dog from your own area." *BOGGLE* So I have no idea what we're going to do. I just know that if they don't pull King, he's going to be put to sleep and that just kills me. What an abosolute shitty life for him. Abused and neglected only to be PTS. Either way, we are going to adopt another dog for Poopie sometime this spring.

That just breaks my heart that he will be PTS. *sigh*

I just got all swoony. My boss was talking about Mike Alstott. I had to tell him that me and my IG were going to kidnap him. He got confused and said "I thought you were gay" LMAO
I had to explain that there are a couple of men who I would hop the fence for. *giggle*

And I'll be seeing Jamie after work tonight so I'll report back later with his response. *grin*

Update...

Jamie is now aware that he is the object of your affection. His reply was to tell you that if think his picture is cute, you should definitely see the whole package.

He's so shy. *rolls eyes*

Weeeeeee! The whole PACKAGE?!! Man, I hope that's code!!

*smooches* for both of you :)

I'm pretty sure it was code. But, as his Mommy, I didn't want to ask. *grin*
