Update on the rescues.
King? Has been adopted. *cheers* Although, not by us. Let's just say, it is extremely difficult to bring an untested, unvetted animal from 12 hours away into your home when you already have a dog and a cat. There are just too many unknowns. *sigh of relief* I am so happy and relieved that he has been adopted. Whew.
Now onto the next prospect. *grin* We went to a local Human Society to look at some dogs this past weekend. They were mostly pitbulls and boxer mixes. One of them stole our heart. He is *gasp* an American Bulldog/Pitbull mix that has to be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. There are some dogs that when you look into their eyes you see a person in there. That's what happened with Jefferson. Talk about gentle and loving! We were practically in love! There was just something about him. The staff said he was a big, loving baby. Plus, the dog next to him did nothing but bark and you could almost see it in Jefferson's eyes "Please? I really hate it here. Can you get me out and take me home?" So we called a couple days later and everything was a go until they checked his chart, and? Not good with cats. *sigh* We are going back to the pound on Saturday to take him out to play. They have a fenced in area that you can take a dog you're interested in and play with them. We may also have him re-cat-tested to see exactly what his issue is with them. Does he just chase them? Thea chases Ryan all the time. Or is he aggressive towards them? That, unfortuantely, would be a no go. Want to see what he looks like?
Can you get over that face? I am melting! So if we can't take him home, we are at least going to make his existence a little more fun by taking him out to play. We are also going to sponsor half of his adoption fee.

What a cutie! I can see why you are melting T-Kit. You are such a sweetie to do the things you are for him.
My late MIL had an albino boxer. Normally breeders "get rid" of the white puppies so there's no history of it in the bloodline. She couldn't let them do that to this one so she took it and never revealed where it came from. Sadly, it outlived her but Dave's brother kept him after his Mom died. He looked a lot like Jefferson.
He is too cute!
Good luck with the re-cat-testing. Hopefully it's nothing major.
He looks a little scary upon first seeing him in person as his head is the size of freakin' bowling ball but his body is smaller than you would think. Plus, it's all in the eyes and demeanor.
There were a couple dogs there that I seriously could not even look at they scared me so much. One was a little, female pitbull named "Twister". Talk about an intense STARE. *shudder*
You are just so beautiful, inside and out *smoooooooooooooooch*
Good luck with Jefferson.
He is lovely and you are a special person for doing this. We adopted a beautiful black lab mix once. She was a little over a year and just so sweet. We took her home and she growled at small children. She was just too nervous around them. It broke our hearts to return her but children were in our future. We did the same thing, played with her and sponsored her adoption fee, she did get adopted and it was known then that she needed a home without small kids.
Sorry to ramble but I think you would be the perfect people to do stuff like this. Have you ever thought too (I don't know what your schedule allows) but taking shelter dogs to nursing homes? The patients absolutely love it and the dogs get tons of attention.
So nice of you T-Kitty. End note we were able to adopt 2 3 year old Border collies that no one wanted becasue they had to come together and no one wanted such "old" dogs. We have had thme for 5 years now and they are wonderful members of our family.
*smooch* I got your email. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and Jefferson. We used to have a boxer and she loved to chase the cat but never harmed her. I hope Jefferson is the same way.
Good luck! I hope it works out. And yay! for King!
Awwwww. I love Jefferson. I want him to adopt you. Will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well and he gets to come home with you.
Oh, and you and your hubby are so generous and loving and kind. God Bless you both.
*smooch*
PS On a personal note, I adopted my sweet Miss Kitty (RIP) from the humane society when she was 10 years old. The staff could not believe I was adopting her because she was so "old". But just one look in her sweet face I knew I couldn't let her stay there. We had 9 years together and I still miss her. If anyone cares to read it, my tribute post to her is in my blog (August 2005).
Good luck adopting Jefferson, Tkitty. The thing with guard-type dogs, IMO, is that they are territorial about cats too. Your cats? may become his cats, while all foreign cats remain the enemy.
Our Newfie loved our cats, but any foreign feline was given a quick trip off the property!
That said, introducing adult cats and dogs is very hard as compared to when one or the other is a puppy/kitten.
Swami- our cat is JUST getting used to Thea. When we first brought her home, all 11 pounds of her, we put her on the floor and Ryan looked at her as if to say "What the FVCK is that?! And what is to doing here??!!" LOL!
We're thinking that the new pup is going to be more interested in playing with Thea rather than chasing Ryan. *fingers crossed*
I thought you were going to bring a Human home from the Human Society. Well, it seems like the new pup is sort of human. Good luck with the adoption!
Yay for King! ...and good luck with Jefferson!
