Here we go again! ETA: He's coming home Saturday!

We're a little further along this time. Our application has been approved and our references have been contacted. One went so well that the rescue agency told my reference "Well, I suppose I should start looking into flights for him." All will be good if we can get him a fare under $400-$500. Without further ado, please meet Bear.

He is eight years old, FULLY TRAINED, loves swimming and in Las Vegas. Why adopt from there vs. here? Because I belong to a lab board and this is like adopting a dog from Bebo. He is an owner surrender which I just can't get over. The previous owners' youngest son just moved out and they decided they didn't have time for him anymore due to work. *boggle* How you spend eight years with a pet and then just give them away? Anyway, we're hoping that everything works out. Thea whispers to me every night, "Mom, when is Bear coming home?" Soon, Poopie. Soon.

*boggle* Yeah, how after 8 years don't you MAKE time? Ugh.

I hope Bear works out! LOL at Thea's whispers. :-)

Seriously Kim! I guess from what the rescue people told me, this is a couple from a very afluent part of Vegas that could easily take him to daycare or hire someone to come and let him out. I just can't imagine giving up on a pet after 8 years!! My gawd, I've only had Thea for nine months and I would NEVER give her up. I would go to the ends of the earth before I gave her away to anyone but friends and family. The really crazy part is, his foster mom says that he is perfect. No digging, chewing, listens attentively, knows all his commands, can be left alone unattended in the house and touches nothing. Just loves to swim, play and be loved on.

Thanks Carey. DH is in love! Wanted to change his entire audit schedule in CA to go to Vegas and get him. He keeps calling me..."Have you heard anything yet? Huh? Huh?"

*grin*

To avoid any confusion, the Bebo reference is to a woman that is a moderator on the lab board and runs a rescue agency, not the dimwit previous owners who dumped him.

I'll meet you in Vegas. *grin*

The previous owners sound like perfect idiots! I can't imagine what they're thinking. Maybe he was the son's dog and the son is in a situation where he just can't have him, like stationed overseas or something. I dunno.

Oh my! He is just adorable! I love him! My sister used to have a dog that looked just like Bear.

*wetnosesmooches* for Bear!

So beautiful! He looks so friendly and loveable. Good luck!

I too cannot imagine giving up a family member like that.

oh my. He's beautiful. TKit, this is wonderful. You are wonderful.

I'm updating my links. I am going to link you, okay?

All good Glowie!

Update: The rescue place e-mailed me last night and after I answer a few more questions and find a plane ticket, he could be here as soon as next weekend! The only downside to this is DH is going to be gone for seven days on business. That means me taking care of 2 large dogs, one cat, a house, a acre of property and a full-time job by myself. Yikes.

Want me to fly out and help?
I'm a very good cook.

OMG, how fun would that be!!!

*runs off to check flights*

At 10:28 AM, Blogger Glowie said...

Yay! That's great. Don't worry about DH being gone. It's only a week and you'll get extra bonding time with Bear. Can you take a day off work?

At 10:40 AM, Blogger thndrkttn said...

I was thinking about taking a couple days off. I was going to send Thea to daycare as usual and then take him to a state park to swim. Thea is still such a puppy that it would hard to handle the two of them by myself. He would be fine, it's her that's a maniac.

At 11:27 AM, Blogger Bravie said...

I've checked flights. Do you have a good recommendation for a hotel?

At 12:10 PM, Blogger thndrkttn said...

Yeah, Chez T-kit. *hops* Carey's coming to visit!

Another update: All I have to do is send photos of the back yard and it's a go! He'll be flying to Newark on May 13th and we'll pick him up there. A big birthday gift to my DH.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. *hops with Tkit*
I'm so happy for you. *smooch*

OMH I'm so thrilled for all of you, especially Bear cause he's in for the biggest treat having you and your DH as his new mom 'n pop. He's such a beautiful dog.

*jumps for joy*

We are pretty excited. I think we are going to have him take a night flight instead of a day flight for lower temperature. He'll probably sleep the whole way and we'll pick him up at 5:30 Sunday morning in Newark when there's no traffic.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. It looks like Bear is going to be a new family member!

He is beautiful! I am so glad you are taking on an older pet too. They are so much harder to place.

I too can't understand how someone can give a dog up after 8 years? Our swere given up when they were 3 years old because the owners moved to a condo that did not allow pets. ???? *Boggle* FTR they had no behaviour problems at all.

Best wishes!

Yay for Mr. and Mrs. Tkit and their new baby. *smooches*

Yaaaaaay! What a cute family you'll be!

At 6:33 PM, Blogger yvonne said...

How could anyone give up that sweet boy? I'm like you TKit...no way in hell I would give up any of my pets, not even grumpy Big Fat Harry. No way. No how. Never. I'd go without food if that meant that was the only way to feed them. Geez. People are morons.

But you and your DH are angels on earth for taking Bear. Lucky Bear!!!

*BIG BEAR HUGS TO EVERYONE*

At 9:33 PM, Blogger momma said...

Yay! Hooray! So glad Bear will be home soon.

But. I have a very serious question for you. Do you really send Thea to daycare?!?!

At 2:02 AM, Blogger Puffy said...

Are you going to change your name to Thndrdog?

At 9:34 AM, Blogger Swami said...

Once your two dogs have acclimated to each other, you may no longer need doggy daycare.

I'm guessing daycare would be confusing for Bear since he has already had so many changes in his life. But taking Thea to daycare for a few weeks after Bear arrives would give him some time to be free of puppy energy. And you wouldn't want to leave them alone together until you were really really sure they had bonded.

So, you're picking him up on Mother's Day, and he's a birthday gift for the DH? What a lucky dog!

Congratulations, Tkit! Bear looks adorable, and I'm sure he'll be a great new addition!

At 8:01 AM, Blogger thndrkttn said...

Thanks everyone!! I am booking his flight this morning and we'll pick him up on Sunday.

Yes, Momma. Thea goes to daycare twice a week. It was for a couple reasons. At first it was because it was winter and she was still little so it was a great way for her to be exercised properly and socialized. Plus, she LOVES it. She'll still go for a while to give Bear a break. Poor Bear is going to be walking around with a 60 pound puppy hanging from his ear for a month or so until she gets used to having a full-time playmate.

I'm so happy for you. I know that you probably can't wait for this week to be over. *smooch*

He's actually coming in Saturday morning and we'll have him all weekend before going back to work.

I'm a little nervous with two of them to worry about but hopefully all will go well. I will have my own little family now. Well, maybe not so little. A family of FIVE!

Carey, what e-mail? I seriously haven't gotten anything from you. Although, I did get five or six e-mails from other peeps this morning that were sent on Monday and were delayed for some reason. *boggle*

Hmmmmm. Let me know if you don't get my response to your email. I would hate for you to think that I was ignoring you. I'm all about making sure that my IG is getting the proper attention and is satisfied. *grin*
