I? Am a clutz.

Seriously, I should be wrapped in bubble wrap.

In the last 18 months, I have sprained and torn ligaments in both ankles and torn ligaments in my right forearm.

Two weekends ago, DH was cutting down trees and there was one branch he was having a hard time pulling down. He cut halfway through the branch, threw a rope around it and was trying to pull it down. I decided to help. I got in front of DH to help pull. He wrapped the rope around his waist to use his body weight. At the last second, to get a better grip, I put one wrap of the rope around my right hand. We were supposed to go on the count of three but he went before and put all 215 pounds of pressure on the rope and that? CRUSHED.MY.HAND. Okay. Idiotic? Sure. So hand gets all swollen and green. Nothing is broken but damn, it’s hurty.

On this particular hand, I already have four, count ‘em FOUR ½ inch burns from the woodstove. So I started wearing oven mitts when fooling with the fire resulting in? Setting the oven mitts on fire. DH is getting me some special fire proof gloves.

And finally, last night I was taking Poopie out early so I could take her upstairs and cuddle with her before DH came up. We have a door off of our mudroom that leads down three steps to a landing that leads to the outside door which I had opened. I was trying to put my sneakers on with the steps to my back. What happened? I lost my balance, fell backwards down the three steps and fell against the door with door knob right in my left lat. HUGE bruise on my back and it's very, very hurty.

*sigh* Are any of you this clutzy?

For Carey.

Carey asked me to take a picture of the two of them together and this is about as good as it gets. Normally, you can't get him to sit with her for 5 seconds without freaking out and playing their normal game of her nosing him, he then snaps and swats at her. Nose, snap, swat. Nose, snap, swat. They'll keep doing it until one of us yells "KNOCK IT OFF, YOU TWO!"

Tell me funny stories of your pets, past and present.

Update on the rescues.

King? Has been adopted. *cheers* Although, not by us. Let's just say, it is extremely difficult to bring an untested, unvetted animal from 12 hours away into your home when you already have a dog and a cat. There are just too many unknowns. *sigh of relief* I am so happy and relieved that he has been adopted. Whew.

Now onto the next prospect. *grin* We went to a local Human Society to look at some dogs this past weekend. They were mostly pitbulls and boxer mixes. One of them stole our heart. He is *gasp* an American Bulldog/Pitbull mix that has to be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. There are some dogs that when you look into their eyes you see a person in there. That's what happened with Jefferson. Talk about gentle and loving! We were practically in love! There was just something about him. The staff said he was a big, loving baby. Plus, the dog next to him did nothing but bark and you could almost see it in Jefferson's eyes "Please? I really hate it here. Can you get me out and take me home?" So we called a couple days later and everything was a go until they checked his chart, and? Not good with cats. *sigh* We are going back to the pound on Saturday to take him out to play. They have a fenced in area that you can take a dog you're interested in and play with them. We may also have him re-cat-tested to see exactly what his issue is with them. Does he just chase them? Thea chases Ryan all the time. Or is he aggressive towards them? That, unfortuantely, would be a no go. Want to see what he looks like?

Can you get over that face? I am melting! So if we can't take him home, we are at least going to make his existence a little more fun by taking him out to play. We are also going to sponsor half of his adoption fee.

Rescuing a dog.

On a lighter, happier note than yesterday...

DH and I have been looking into adopting/rescuing a dog in need. There are tons of labbies out there that I know are going to go to good homes. Then there are others who NEED a good home. That's what I want. Poopie lives such a nice life. Why not give that same life to a dog who has never known love?

We had been looking into a dog named Jake. He had been dumped off on someone's farm, underfed, obviously beaten and had cigarette burns all over his legs. I bawled telling my husband about him. We put in to adopt him but I believe his foster family ended up keeping him.
This is who we are looking at now. Meet King.

"King was an owner surrender and has been kenneled his whole life and was neglected. His kennel was rarely cleaned out and he lived among his owne waste. King is about 5 years old and just needs someone to give him some time and love. This boy is very energetic and will need some obedience training to help him know good "doggie manners" since his previous owners didn't give him the time of day. Please give King a wonderful home and call the pound today! He is in danger of being PTS due to a full kennel! King deserves a second chance, don't you think?! "

There are a few issues such as housebreaking him, the fact that he has never worn a collar, has never been inside a home, has no shots and is not neutered. Not sure how this is all going to play out but we're going to try our best.
